Gladys is 7 months old already!

How time flies.. Gladys is 7 months old already!

It's high time to potty train Gladys. Since she's been taking semi-solids, her poo is quite a massive amount each time. *yucky*

Hey, I didn't know baby's potty can be so expensive ok. Some really fancy ones can cost up to $100! And their purpose is to hold baby's poo.

Anyway, I bought her a fairly nice one from Kiddy Palace. This small piece of plastic costs me $12.90! It's got a nice little handle which she can hold on to for support while she does her business.

Here's her dear Papa potty-training her.

Since it's her first time sitting on her potty, she seems quite fascinated by her new 'toy' that she forgot her 'mission'.

1st try, mission failed!

Anyway, I'm glad she enjoys sitting on it. I mean, she has to feel comfortable with her potty, right?

By the 2nd day, she 'bombed' the potty big-time! Well, the photos are too gross to be posted here. I've also learnt that in future, I must always remember to lay some tissue in the potty first, so that it's easier for me to clean it.

During the weekend, Papa Eric decided to bring us for a trip to Malaysia. I suggested Malacca coz it's not too far. I'm really worried in case Gladys couldn't take long journeys and get cranky. You really don't wish for a wailing baby in the car.

This is her first time out of Singapore and I'm really glad she slept through most of the time, both to and fro. Maybe next time, we can venture further.

We got a really nice room at the Equatorial. This is the first time Gladys stayed at a hotel and I'm glad she didn't make a big fuss about sleeping at an unfamiliar place.

We also celebrated Shermain's 12th birthday there. In the photo, me and Gladys, together with Shermain jie-jie, Hilda jie-jie and Regine jie-jie.

When we were at the mall, Gladys got onto the kiddy ride for the very first time and she enjoyed herself so much. See, she even held on to the steering wheel herself!

I'm sure in time to come, she will be bugging me for coins to take the rides! Haha..

Motherhood is so contradicting. When baby's not ready, you're hoping that she can do it soon. When she's doing it, you wished she didn't.

Gladys 1st Ride on a Shopping Trolley

Well, a lot of mummies posted pictures of their babies on trolleys on the forum since weeks ago. They call it the 'in' picture.

I may have been a little late but I want to make sure that Gladys is really sitting steadily with little support before I attempt it.

A little lop-sided at first.

Then she seems to be enjoying her new ride.

Papa Eric was pushing the trolley real slowly in case she hits herself onto the handle bar.

Anyway, it was a short ride down the aisle coz she started crying to be carried, again.

I Shaved Gladys Hair

I really had enough.

It's been so long but yet only some parts of Gladys' hair is growing. When the wind's blowing, only that few strands are 'flapping' in the wind.

So I carried her on one hand and a shaver on the other and started shaving her in the bath tub.

I think she was horrified by the sound of the vibrations made by the shaver. Her legs were shaking uncontrollably and her face was full of shock.

OMG, what did I do?

No choice though, since I'm half-way done. So I hugged her close to my chest and continue with my mean deed.

No photos, coz my both hands are full.

Now, she's more botak then before. Sighz..

My botak princess..

Feeding Gladys

Although the World Health Organisation recommends that we should only start to wean babies when they are 6 months old, I started introducing semi-solids to Gladys when she's 5 months old.

Signs that drove me nuts:
Her eyes follow food from my hand to my mouth;
She makes 'chewing' movements when she sees me eat;
She wails when she doesn't get to taste it;
She loses interest in milk; and most importantly
She didn't gain much weight.

My dear MIL is convinced that I'm starving my baby. My mum insisted that it's high time to give my baby some food.

Argghhhh..

Ok, maybe I should listen to the folks for once.

I gave Gladys 'safer' food like baby rice cereal, pumpkin, sweet potato, and avocado.

In case you're thinking I'm over feeding her, not to worry. I'm just testing if she's accepting food well. During the introduction period, it is more like a snack then a real feed.

I'm glad she enjoys her food, well, except the baby jar of berries. I think she hates it coz she gave me that yucky face. I tasted it myself and immediately hated it too. So sour! Maybe she's just like me. Hates sour food.

Well, anyway, by 6 months, I started to substitute 2 milk feeds with baby cereal. But I'll mix it with formula milk so that she's not losing much on the nutrients.

To my surprise, she'll always finish her cereal by not for her milk. How?

By 6.5 months, I started giving her home-cooked porridge. Not any ordinary porridge, but one made with wholesome mummy's love.

The porridge was cooked in slow cooker for at least 4 hours to make sure that it's really 'broken'. I prepared the vege and fish separately because I didn't want them to lose their nutients from over cooking.

1st was porridge with spinach and threadfin.

Then I tried porridge with carrots and threadfin.

She seems to be ok with the food that I gave her, except that with the carrots, I could see the carrot bits in her poo. Quite yucky leh.

Getting really excited before her feed.

Relaxed and sipping from her cup after a meal.

She's also quite greedy, you know. Always demanding snacks. I'll give her a piece of teething rusk and she'll be happily chomping away.

Btw, by 6.5 months, she has a total of 4 teeth! A pleasant surprise for me! But quite funny coz instead of the usual upper centre, out comes the upper side ones. Maybe she wanna be a munchkin vampress for Halloween!

Mapril Gathering

Last Saturday, 20th October 2007, we attended a gathering held at Edelwiss Park, organised by some mummies. It was named Mapril Gathering coz the mummies all have babies born in either March, April or May.

I would say it was a very well organised gathering. A lady was invited to teach us infant massage. There were also not one, not two, but three goody bags! And I love goody bags!

There was also a lucky draw. But I wasn't so lucky that day. I didn't get anything! It was only towards the end of the day that I managed to get a Pigeon fridge lock during the sure win lucky dip. Well, it's better than nothing lor.

I think there were about 30 mummies with their babies that day. Some were accompanied by their hubbies. So nice right? At least they can eat in peace while the other take care of the baby.

There was also a very nice cake from Angie's the Choice! It taste really good. It has a picture of a pig coz all our babies are born in the year of Pig! Btw, there were 2 icing 'flowers' on the cake right? I got the pink one while Augleo got the purple one. I was telling her how lucky we were! But she didn't eat it. I did!

Anyway, both Gladys and me enjoyed ourselves. After the party, we went over to Adeline's place to visit baby Ariel, since she's also staying in the estate. I stayed there for dinner while Gladys napped.

While we were at Adeline's place, Gladys pooed twice leh. It was quite embarassing coz it was damn smelly lor. And I could see the carrot particles in her poo coz I fed her carrot porridge the previous day. Yucky!

During our ride home, something really funny happened. It's not often that I drive with Gladys at night. And I had to wear glasses when I drive at night. So I think Gladys didn't recognise me with my spectacles and she sobbed hysterically!

It was so bad that tears were just flowing uncontrollably down her cheeks. It was so damn funny but yet it broke my heart. So I had to take my spectacles off, on the lights and at the same time telling her that mummy is right beside her.

Then she stopped crying and stared at me with her big eyes. But when I put on my spectacles again, she started crying again! What would you do if you were me?

Anyway, I just had to drive without my spectacles and I had to sing silly songs to her, just to reassure her that I didn't disown her but it didn't work anymore.

By the time we reach home, her face was drenched with her own tears and when I picked her up from her car seat, she gave me the most pitiful look and she sort of like 'hugged' me while she buried her face in my chest. I feel so loved and needed.

Don't worry, mummy will never disown you. Promise!

Trial Class @ Kindermusik

Last Sunday, 14th October 2007, I brought Gladys to Kindermusik at Tanglin Mall to attend her first ever 'lesson'.

This trial class is organised by one of the mummies I got to know in the forum. I was lucky to get a slot for Gladys.

Class started at 11am and we had to wake up super early to get ourselves ready. I had to wake her up at about 9am. Yes, we're lazy bums.

I targetted to bathe, clothe and feed her, pack my barangs, shower and get myself ready within an hour. Sighz.. I failed.

Anyway, I rush to put her in her car seat and drove like a crazy bimbo. Luckily I got there on time.

The class is really interesting and I think Gladys enjoyed herself thoroughly. She got to shake the maracas, beat the drums and 'fly' around in the classroom.

Guess what, I'm the one who was really weared down BECAUSE I'm the one carrying her while she 'fly'.

I had to recuperate for a couple of days, you know.

Maybe I'll go for trial classes for Gymboree and Aquaducks, before I'll decide on what to sign her up for. Ultimately, she has to enjoy the class, right? Anyway, I'll still be the 'tired' one.

Meet Up @ Raffles City

We went to meet up with some mummies and babies at Raffles City for lunch. As it was lunch time, we had a hard time getting a place to accommodate us: mummies, babies and strollers. Eventually, we settled down at Swiss Cafe.

I enjoy meeting up with them coz we share the same topic: baby's growth, baby's poo, baby's food, baby's hair, MIL, maid, etc. Anything and everything revolving around our precious baby.

Many of my friends are sick and tired to hold a conversation with me coz somehow, I'll manage to divert the topic to... what else, but Gladys. :)

After lunch, a couple of them had plans so the rest of us went Robinsons to shop. Yes, you guessed it. We only went to the kids' department.

Anyway, photos..

Mummy Gene & Baby Gladys. Yes, she's still quite botak and that Topshop Mini dress is still too huge for her.

Me feeding Gladys. I'm really glad that although she hasn't been drinking enough, she has been eating well. And stop looking at my FAT arms ok. I know you're looking.

Group Photo (L-R): Mrs Chia with baby Jeremy; Leo with baby JK; Michele with baby Claire; Me with my crying baby Gladys; Sanrio with baby Cherelle; Jane with baby Kaizer.

Cindy with lil' pumpkin, Caitlyn. There were other mummies Kelley and Michelle who are omitted in the photos coz they didn't bring their babies out coz they went out shopping for themselves. *jealous*

I managed to 'kidnap' Caitlyn, while Gladys was sleeping. She's so cute right.

As usual, I quite bo liao and made up a story with some photos Jane has taken.

Kaizer: Cherelle, I heard your stroller is really comfy. I wanna try leh.
Cherelle: Nope, unless you smell my feet.

Kaizer: I'm a man! I won't do it!
Cherelle: Then go away! Shooo..

Anyhow, Kaizer managed to get Cherelle off the stroller and was taking a nap when..

Gladys: Ok, no one's watching. I'm gonna teach Kaizer a lesson.

Gladys: *slap slap* You're still napping!

Gladys: Still ignore me, wait I call my gang.

Kaizer: Go away! *Kicking Gladys' butt.*
Gladys: *sob sob* Kaizer never give me face one. *Cherelle came to the rescue.*

Jeremy 'ying shiong jiu mei'. The hero came to the rescue! Kaizer outnumbered liao.

Babies are soooo cute, right?

Celebrating Mama Gene's Birthday

Papa brought us to Waraku at Central for dinner. We got a nice and cozy window seat and Gladys was enjoying the scenery and the boats passing by, along the river. *happy*

But good times doesn't last. In minutes, she got bored and became interested on the food served on our table.

So I had to eat with one hand and to hold her down with the other. As she's still not really stable sitting down, I'm really worried she'll end up under the table.

Where's the baby who'll sleep through my lunch meet up with friends? I remembered I can chat for hours while she nap. But then, that was months ago.

Now Gladys is a active little 'angel'. Sometimes so cute. Sometimes just wanna smack her butt.

Towards the end of our dinner, she got really mad that she didn't have her share of food, when the empty plates were taken away.

No choice, so I let her have a 'sip' on my cup. She's seems contented, she thought she could eat it!

Mama Gene's Birthday

Today's my BIG day.

My 29th birthday. Nothing really big, but it's the 1st that I'll be celebrating with my baby.

Scary man. This will be my last '20s' birthday. So 1 year from now, I can't say I'm "in my 20s" but rather I'll have to say "early 30s". Duhz.

So sad right. There'll be more wrinkles and more stubborn fats.

No wonder when you're older, you don't look forward to celebrating your birthday as much as when you were a kid. There're no more little wrapped pressies to unwrap.

I'll usually celebrate a day earlier with my family coz 9th October is my parents' wedding anniversary.

Coincident hor.

So my 29th birthday means it's their 30th wedding anniversary.

My mum always joked that she had to rush to the hospital after having dinner with my dad, on their 1st wedding anniversary.

So I am their greatest gift, right. :)

Anyway, last night we had dinner at Harbourfront. We were busy eating dinner and Gladys was busy chewing on her toys on the high chair.

Next year, I'm sure she'll want to have her share of our dinner.

After dinner, we went to Mt Faber for a little stroll. Gladys fell asleep.

Since my dad scrapped his car years ago, they've not been there. My mum said they used to go to Mt Faber often when they were dating. My dad said there used to be a 'bor-bor-cha-cha' stall.

So much has changed since then. But I hope their undying love for each other remains till eternity.

Happy Anniversary!

To Papa Eric, With Love..

We got to know each other through our mutual riding pals. It's been almost 4 years since we're together.

4 years. It's not a long time, neither is it a short one. We had our ups and downs.

4 years. From a slim bikini babe, I've turned to be a plump ah-soh.

Anyhow, I hope our marriage will be blissful and our family be happy together. I want to grow old with you.

I love you, baby. And I hope you feel the same way too.
